Does ChatGPT recommend your restaurant? A 20-minute test

Guide · GEO and AI · · 2 min · by the Renver team

This article was written first in Portuguese — Como saber se o ChatGPT recomenda o seu restaurante (teste de 20 minutos)

Quick answer

Summary

Write 10 to 15 questions a guest would ask — by category and neighbourhood, by occasion, and about your restaurant by name — ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Mode in a session with no history, and note whether you appear, in what position, and whether the facts are right. Repeat once a month with the same questions to compare.

“Are we in ChatGPT?” is a question many restaurant owners already ask. The honest answer is: it depends on the question. So testing once is not enough — you need a fixed set of questions and a record.

1. Write the questions

Three kinds, three to five questions each:

  • Category + place: “best steak in Vila Madalena”, “cheap Japanese restaurant near Avenida Paulista”.
  • Occasion: “restaurant for a birthday with a child in Pinheiros”, “where to have a quick lunch near the courthouse”.
  • By name: “what does [your restaurant] serve?”, “is [your restaurant] open on Sunday?”.

Write them the way a guest would — in the language your guests use, with the details. The examples above are from São Paulo; swap in your own neighbourhood and landmarks. For ideas, see the questions guests ask AI.

2. Ask the same way every month

  • A private window or a session without history.
  • The same device, the same city.
  • ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Mode (the story of its launch in Brazil is in Portuguese); Perplexity too, if you like.

3. Record it in a spreadsheet

4. Read the result

  • Does not appear for the by-name questions: the AI barely knows the restaurant. Start with the Google profile and the website (five practical actions).
  • Appears by name, but not by category: specific facts are missing — dishes, prices, occasions. Replies to reviews that carry facts, and a menu in HTML, help.
  • Appears with a wrong fact: fix the source it cites. Opening times and prices are good places to start: they are easy to check and easy to correct.

At Renver, a fixed set of questions is chosen together with the restaurant and repeated every month, once the data source is connected. It is a measurement of selected questions, not a complete picture of what every AI says — and it is how we show what changed without promising what nobody controls. See how it works.

Want to look after what AI finds about your restaurant?

Renver keeps the information complete and the same everywhere and, once the data source is connected, measures where the restaurant appears, with no promise of position.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the result change every time I ask?

Generated answers vary. That is why the method uses several questions, the same clean session and a monthly repeat — what matters is the trend, not a single answer.

Is appearing with wrong facts worse than not appearing?

It can be. A wrong opening time or price quoted by an AI produces a frustrated guest. If the facts are wrong, the priority is to correct the sources, starting with the Google profile.
